The DRSG water heater: an expert opinion
After its successful launch, our DR-SG stainless steel condensing water heater has become a firm favourite with our expert Area Sales Managers and their customers! Our sales team regularly engage with the product and work with our customers to specify the right product, so are best suited to provide valuable insights into its performance and practicalities.
The DR-SG water heater is available in ten power outputs and three storage capacities. Combined with its industry leading features, the DR-SG is a popular choice in comparison to other models on the market.
The durable stainless steel tank
Offering considerable resistance to corrosion, customers can expect confidence, long service life and durability with the DR-SG. While enamelled or glass-lined steel products often require additional measures to reduce the risk of corrosion, the Dorchester DR-SG features high-grade stainless-steel technology with electrical anode protection. This offers increased protection against corrosion and subsequently reduces maintenance and increases system lifespan.
Popular in both hard and soft water areas, the water heater has been well received in a variety of installations with different water compositions. Bob Smith, Hamworthy Area Sales Manager for Yorkshire explained:
"Designed to offer outstanding performance under challenging water conditions, the DR-SG water heater is perfectly suited to cope with the extremities of both soft and hard water, this makes it a particularly versatile product offering for all areas within the UK”
A lightweight and practically designed water heater
What’s more the stainless steel design is praised for its lightweight properties which address many of the issues relating to transporting and handling products. Designed to fit through a standard 800mm doorway with a narrow diameter of <80cm (excluding 538 model), the Dorchester DR-SG offers simple installation without the need for costly cranes or heavy lifting equipment. Tony Moore, Hamworthy Area Sales Manager for Southwest London commented:
“Contractors are impressed with how light the DR-SG units are in comparison to other models on the market. Sometimes the difference in weight can be over 100kg, which can make a huge difference to the installation process”.
Garnering lots of interest in its weight, Noel Lally, Hamworthy Area Sales Manager for Oxford, Milton Keynes and parts of the Home Counties also comments:
“The DR-SG is a much lighter equivalent to traditional glass lined units of similar outputs. In my experience, contractors have found this a big asset”.
Featuring a slim line design, the DR-SG also offers customers a fitting solution when space is of a premium, Christian Robinson, Hamworthy Area Sales Manager for Central London agreed:
“The small footprint of the DR-SG provides customers with a flexible solution when working in tight plantrooms. Also, there’s the added benefit of being able to remove the installation jacket, if needed. We’ve found that this is a particularly important consideration for customers who need to access tight city centre plantrooms”
For projects where plant room height is a concern, the team has also discovered that the position of the flue on the Dorchester DR-SG is also a significant advantage. Unlike other models, which have the flue discharge positioned at the top of the water heater—limiting installation options—the Dorchester DR-SG’s flue outlet is located at the bottom. This design provides greater flexibility, making it easier to integrate into a variety of project configurations. Read more about how this benefited the customer in this case study: The Knaresborough Inn.
Available at a competitive price point—especially for a stainless steel product—and supported by a five-year warranty, the Dorchester DR-SG has become a very popular product with our customers. Additionally, it now includes a new flue kit, enhancing its appeal even further.
Suitable for both renovation and new build projects, including locations with substantial and continuous hot water demands such as hotels and sports facilities, the Dorchester DR-SG water heater meets the latest Building Regulations and offers significantly improved efficiency and performance when replacing a non-condensing water heater.
